I knew the place would rule, but I was seriously shocked at just how good the pizza was. We got the 4 cheese pizza and meatballs, but it took a while to decide becuase all the options looked awesome. Thin crust, cooked to perfection. The cheese, melts in your mouth (and not cause it scaulding hot), and the sauce, my god man the sauce!!!! This might be my favorite pizza joint in San Francisco. The beer / tap selection is limited, but what choices they have are great. they also have wine on tap! And great wine. Love this place and will recco it to everyone I know. My only complaint...a ton of kids were there. Might be the fact that we went at 6:15pm, might be the fact that it was in Pac Heights...but the screaming kids was the only negative about this place.
Portico ( 6 Jul)

I had really high hopes of Portico - I've heard great things about the place and now my office is right next door. Huge place - lots of tables, great lighting and more of a cafateria style place than anything. There is a great salad bar, sando options and of course - pizza. The slices are huge - you can have 1 slice and should be good unless you are starving. I got the BBQ chicken slcie. Good crust, but a little dry. The toppings were good - not great. There is a large selection of toppings (ready made slices). This is a great place to go if rushed on time and want a slice to go. If you want to sit down and check out the other food here - I would definetly suggest trying one of their sandwiches - large selection and delicious. I will def go back here for pizza, but only when in a rush or just want to grab a slice for on the go.
Nizario's Pizza ( 6 Jun)

Despite being right at the corner of bridge and tunnel central (Broadway and Columbus) the pizza wasn't half bad. I was expecting it to be waaay worse. A little doughy, but great crust and the sauce was good and toppings were very fresh. Huge space inside - great place to grab a slice on the way out or when in North Beach

We didn't come to Plant to get pizza, but instead, just a couple mid day refreshments. But after sitting down and seeing the menu of what looked like great pizza's, we couldn't resist. Also, staring right at you when you're sitting at the bar is a large, beautiful wood burning pizza oven. We decided on the BBQ chicken sausage pizza. Great, thin crust. The sauce and crust made for the perfect mid day meal. The sausage was amazing and was way more than I expected (flavor wise). I look forward to coming back and trying another one of their amazing pizza selections.

Desperately hungry after seeing a show at the Paramount, we wondered the streets of Oakland in hopes of finding a quick slice. Long behold, down some dark streets we run into a lone, open pizza joint. The place is empty and the 2 owners are behind the counter watching some asian TV show. The smell hits you instantly - ahh, sweet mop water. No matter, we are starving. We find out they only have 2 slices left and there are 4 of us. We get the only 2 cheese slices and surprisingly, not horrible. Large slices, a little doughy, and the cheese and sauce are mediocre. I would never go back, unless under the same circumstances - Starving!
Cafe Bernardo (21 Mar)

I was surprised - the pizza wasn't half bad. A little greasy, but the crust, sauce and cheese really made the pizza. Small pizza for 1 person, you could easily eat 2. I really liked the atmosphere at this bar / restaurant. You could get you own room stocked with couches, a table and a TV. Was a great find.
Olive (14 Feb)

This is a great place tucked away in the seedy Tenderloin district. Great place for happy hour and to get stabbed on the way in and/or out. Once inside though, they have a great happy hour for drinks and of course pizza! $5 pizza's. Great thin crust, with a great selection of toppings. They only serve whole pizza's, but they are relatively small. Good place to go prior to the night out on the town.
Marcello's Pizza ( 1 Feb)
  • Currently 4.0/5 Stars.
This is a great on the go pizza. Sell large slices. Great sauce and dough. I love the crust. Thin crust, a little doughy and filling. 1 slice believe it or not can do the job. Small pizza joint - not good for large groups. Highly recommend Marcello's

This place is a little out of the way, but worth it. Cool atmosphere and bar. And the owner of this place, none other than the famous Franz...used to own the Curve Bar (now O'Reilly's by AT&T Park) and Plouf in Beldon Alley. The wine selection is broad and all (that I tried) were great. Now comes the best - the pizza! Great selection of pie's to choose from. We got the Pep / Sausage and spicy chicken. Both excellent. Great crust (thin) and the toppings were fresh and it shined through int he taste. I highly recco this place to anyone in this hood (good for after work and large groups).
